Noise Café – A Sound Playground

2012

“Noise Café- A Sound Playground” was a joint-project planned by the Digital Art Center, Taipei, and the art director of noiseKitchen, WANG Chung-kun. When working on the plan for this space, the artist WANG Chung-kun was hoping to utilize the physical sensory experience related to hearing, and through its hands-on operation and interpersonal interaction help the audience realize that avant-garde contemporary art can actually be very close to people. Through this space, he also hopes that ordinary people can embrace contemporary sound art and digital art, to understand them and maybe even fall love with them, instead of treating them as alien subjects.

We hide the experimental spirit of art behind this interesting everyday experience. Through the planning and running of this project, we were also able to get more inspiration too. Between 2012 and 2017, there were regular art and cultural events at the Noise Café, such as seminars, artist conventions, performances, talks on artworks, and student experimental artworks. We are hoping this space to become a unique arts hotspot in Taiwan.
